"Spay / Neuter is the Answer"

We are currently able to offer the following spay / neuter plus rabies vaccination prices to Morgan County residents:

Dogs & Cats: $14 (yes, that is fourteen!)
NOTE: this price is only good until we exhaust a recent small grant. Better hurry!

An extra big and special THANK YOU goes to St. Francis Pet Hospital in Centerton for doing spay and neuters of both our shelter pets as well as the community pets that are recipients of our grant moneys. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Small dogs and cats: $20 through Spay/Neuter Services of Indiana
at http://www.spayneuterservices.org

Please tell your friends and neighbors who have unspayed / un-neutered pets how important this is. Help stamp out pet overpopulation in Morgan County!

Volunteers Needed

Please consider volunteering for MCHS.  If we don't help the pets, who will?

Morgan County Humane Society is looking for volunteers for the following positions:

Foster Home Coordinator - finds qualified foster homes for special needs pets.  Examples are mama dogs and cats with litters, dogs that need extra socializing, heartworm-positive dogs, etc.

Newsletter Help - helps get the hard copy newsletter in the mail.
This includes dropping off at the printers, picking up, taping, applying pre-printed address labels, and taking to the post office.
Newsletters are published 2-3 times per year.

Treasurer - Officer level position, requires 6 - 10 hours per week.

Cat Advocates - selects a few shelter cats and transports them to PetsMart in Plainfield once every three weeks and sets them up in the Adoption Center.  Arrange with other volunteers for feeding/watering/cleaning once a day for a week.  At the end of the week, remaining cats are transported back to the shelter by the PetsMart Adoption Team.

Off site adoption events - We are at PetsMart in Plainfield every Saturday.  More pets adopted = more pets saved.  Can you help?  Thanks to all who have helped.  Keep coming!  Anyone else interested?

IT Coordinator – helps the shelter with their electronic equipment from computers to fax machines.  Time requirement – occasional as needed.

Fundraising – coordinates or helps with fundraisers.  We are currently trying to raise funds to finish our new (and wonderful!) free-roaming indoor-outdoor Kitty Kabana and Puppy Playhouse.  We need some ideas and helpers!  Time requirement -- occasional as needed.  Thank you, Jill and Lisa!

Shelter – as always, we love to have volunteers come into the shelter and help socialize the cats and dogs.  We also need occasional help with building maintenance/construction.  Plumber, electricians, carpenters, etc. -- here's something you can help with!  Thanks to all who have helped.  Keep coming!  Anyone else?

If you are interested in helping in any of these areas, please contact
Diane at 765-342-0903 or at mareseatoats7001@sbcglobal.net

After an extended break while we acquired funding, work on the Kitty Kabana and Puppy Playhouse is back in full swing.  Finishing touches are being made to the outdoor portion of the Kitty Kabana.  The expected completion date is July 25.  After that, our free-roaming kitties will be able to safely enjoy the great outdoors.  Of course, they will have access as they wish to the indoor free-roaming room. The Puppy Playhouse is a bigger project but work is continuing. Concrete has been poured for the outdoor play areas.  We hope to have some temporary kennels up by August 1, where puppies or small dogs can be inside or outside as they please with room to play!  Many thanks to everyone who has donated toward this project.

Tom is topsy-turvy with delight as he awaits the opening of the outdoor Kitty Kabana.

Spunky Takes "The Ride Of Her Life"

As reported in a previous month, Rescue Waggin' transports several MCHS dogs every month to cities where adoptable dogs are in demand.
PetsMart Charities recently posted a video of one dog's experience riding the Rescue Waggin' to her new home.  While Spunky isn't from our shelter, she very well could be -- as you will see when you click on the link below.  Watch closely for some faces you know, including Angie and Carol and shy Lilly, who was recently adopted from MCHS.

Flood Update

Just as the floodwaters slowly but surely trickled away, the flood victims have found new accommodations and, slowly but surely, have retrieved their beloved pets from the shelter.  As of this writing, only a few cats remain housed in the lobby area.  All are expected to be back with their families by month-end.  Once again, we would like to thank everyone for your generous donations and support.  We could never have done it without you.

PET CARE TIP OF THE MONTH

Don't pet your dog unless he has all four feet on the ground. Otherwise, you are rewarding him for jumping up on you.
